In addition to being interested in the beauty of your smile, we are concerned with the health of your mouth. To help you achieve and maintain your optimal oral health, we focus on preventive care and regular dental checkups. This not only keeps your teeth and gums looking good, feeling great, and functioning well, but keeping up with your oral health can also significantly reduce the amount of money you’ll have to spend on dental treatment later in life.
We also screen for early detection of oral cancer. A healthy body needs a healthy mouth!
Including diagnosis and a variety of treatments, from stress reducing exercises and muscle relaxants, to mouth protector appliances and bite correction. We want to help you find relief. See our Bioesthetic Dentistry page to learn more and see an educational video about healthy bites and jaw joints.
Excellent dental care requires attention to detail and exacting precision. We must work in very small spaces and be accurate to a fraction of a millimeter. To help us, Dr. Hastings and your hygienist use special prismatic magnification glasses.
Since identifying and filling cavities is one of the most important things we do for patients, we use Diagnodent® technology. As the name implies, this technology is a wonderful diagnostic tool. It detects areas of decay more precisely and sooner than less accurate methods of the past, and studies have shown it to be over 90% accurate. In addition to preventing the spread of decay, Diagnodent’s ability to catch decay earlier means that the fillings required are simpler. This allows us to use minimally invasive filling procedures and preserve more natural tooth. Using the low intensity Diagnodent laser also enables us to monitor areas of concern without repeated x-rays. This technology is comfortable for you, as well, with a high level of patient acceptance, appreciation, and satisfaction.
Composite fillings can be adhesively held in place or “bonded.” Because they can be bonded to teeth, composite fillings allow for more conservative preparations where less healthy tooth structure is removed. This often results in smaller fillings than that of amalgam (silver fillings), and they are more natural looking. The tooth-colored material is cured with an intense light and the surface is shaped and polished to match the tooth, rendering the final restoration virtually undetectable to the eye and very natural feeling in the mouth.

Many of the millions of people who are missing teeth struggle with ill-fitting, uncomfortable dentures or retainers with false teeth. If you know what this feels like and are ready for a solution, we have one for you! We can give your smile a second chance through dental implant restorations. Implants can resolve the practical and social problems associated with dentures. They are effective in stabilizing dentures to fit better, feel better, look better, and chew better. They also preclude cavities in restored teeth, make it so you won’t need a root canal, and healthy implants can even prevent bone loss.
In addition to denture stabilization, implants can be used in some crown and bridge applications, as well as single-tooth replacements. Call us to find out more about how this superb option in restorative dentistry could change your life.
When all natural teeth have failed, dentures are a solution. They can make you look and feel younger. They help maintain the shape of your face and improve the look of your smile. If desired, dentures can even be fashioned to look like your natural teeth did, to minimize any change in your appearance. And, like millions of denture wearers, after a little practice, you too can eat the foods you love, speak with greater ease, and smile with confidence again.
Unsightly gaps can make you want to cover your mouth and hide your smile. Same with chipped, crowded, badly shaped, or very discolored teeth. Porcelain veneers, which are thin, custom-made “covers” for the front side of teeth, can correct chips and discoloration from an injury to restore your smile to its original appearance. For those who have never felt happy or confident about their smiles, veneers offer the chance to get a smile that before was only a dream.
After the desired smile makeover look is decided upon, Dr. Hastings will send a model to a dental technician in a lab, who will then make the actual veneers. They are made with durable, tooth-colored materials to look and feel natural in your mouth. When the veneers are ready to be applied, a small amount of tooth enamel typically needs to be removed to fit the veneers onto the teeth. For this reason, veneers are often an irreversible treatment and it is important to be ready for a permanent improvement in the look and feel of your smile! In addition to giving you the benefit of a cleaner looking and more attractive smile, whiter teeth can also enhance your confidence and self-esteem. As a bonus, whitening can lead to healthier teeth because when your teeth look better, you tend to take better care of them to keep them looking terrific.
